This breeding journey started with me in my early teens. I was fortunate enough to grow up around other horseman and woman who shared their love of breeding with me. Peg Schaeffer, who owned a stallion named Blue Is Impressive, in the late 80's early 90's, sealed my future for me. She taught me about the importance of bloodlines, having great broodmares and a stallion that not only could perform, but mentally could handle the job he was given. Blue spoiled me for sure, because he was kind and quiet.
Over the years, I learned everything I could from any veterinarian willing to share breeding knowledge with me. I bought my first stallion when I was only 20 years old. He was my heart horse for sure and he was the start of my pony breeding program. He forgave my mistakes, gave riding lessons to kids, was my daughter's first bareback ride when she wasn't even a year old, but most importantly, he set the bar with how a stallion should behave. For over 12 years, he sired hundreds of pony foals. Even a few that went on to get AQHA titles in western riding and trail and several that made it to pony finals.
Back when I first started breeding, everything was live cover. I didn't own an ultrasound. I teased mares and bred them every other day during their cycle. It was frustrating at times, because though I had a kind and gentle stallion, those mares were sometimes unforgiving. I knew there had to be a better, easier way.
In 1995, I had my first introduction to collecting and the art of AI. Our vet at the time lived over an hour from us, and his solution to not being able to drive there everyday, was to teach me. With his old ultrasound machine, and a few crash courses in palpation, my AI journey took off. I bred 23 mares that first year.
Since then, I live on a mission to learn.
Now my horizons have branched to foaling services , anything AI, Embryo transfer, freezing semen, and stallion management for outside clients. We have a beautiful 4 stall foaling barn with live cameras, utilize the foal alert systems, a full working breeding lab, an in-house recip herd and embryo/semen tanks for storage.
I am dedicated to reproduction only, so your mares, foals and stallions are my only priority.
